Matt’s Grandfather/ Tin Roof Blues/Dixieland Jazz Saints
Matt’s grandafther Tom Smith Sr. plays trombone with Milton Rich’s Dixieland Jazz Saints, one of the more influential New Orleans based traditional jazz ensembles of the 1970s and 1980s. This is a 1989 reunion concert. Milton Rich, drums Tim Laughlin, clarinet Armin Kay, trumpet Tom Smith Sr., trombone Tom Siddell, bass H. Leeman, piano

Armin is my great grandfather. Our real last name is Kirmizian-it’s Armenian. He changed it, and I changed it back.
At last some originality in a trombone solo.
Clarinet, too.
This is Tommy Smith, father of well known t-bonist and jazz prof. Tom Smith. Then Tom is the father of Matt Smith, the teenage kid who’s the world’s fastest drummer. What a family.
Bravo to Matt’s grandfather!
Tin roof is one of my favorite songs in this style. It was one of the first songs I ever sat in with a band on. Love it.
I’m getting a real music education on this channel. When I saw this I thought I wouldn’t like it. But man these dudes get down.
More very nice work. This is a great tune and the boys do it up real fine.
